90 Years of Opera

Opera by the Decade.

balloons_from_boheme_act_IIIn 2010, Cincinnati Opera will celebrate its 90th Anniversary Season. It all began on a warm June night in 1920, with a production of Flotow's Martha performed under the stars at the Cincinnati Zoological Gardens. Since then, the nation's second oldest company has been an integral part of Cincinnati's cultural fabric and a summer haven for music enthusiasts and opera professionals.

From the storied Zoo Opera to our current home in historic Music Hall, the company has been known worldwide for presenting groundbreaking productions and the highest caliber singers. Cincinnati Opera's track record of inclusion, educational offerings and community-based programming has helped build a broad and diverse audience. The company is committed to leveraging the generous support of its stakeholders to present the finest opera available this side of New York City, and to serving as a convener of meaningful community dialogue and collaborative efforts.

In this, our 90th anniversary, help us blow out the candles on each of the past 9 decades. Every month leading up to the start of our 2010 season, we will present another decade of Cincinnati Opera history. Join us as we celebrate the past and look to the future!
