2009 GLBT Night

Thursday July 9

with Evans Mirageas, The Harry T. Wilks Artistic Director, and Patty Beggs, General Director & CEO

On July 9th, we will be holding our 3rd annual GLBT Night at Cincinnati Opera. This is the opening night of Golijov's Ainadamar whose central characters—Spanish poet Federico García Lorca (known to have a relationship with Salvador Dali) and Actress Margarita Xirgu—were both part of the GLBT community.

The plot of this captivating opera surrounds the horrific assassination of Lorca. It is unknown whether he was killed because of his political views, his art, or for his sexuality; nonetheless, his life serves as a reminder of how far we have come with GLBT rights—and how far we still have to go. For this year's event, Cincinnati Opera will be partnering with the Human Rights Campaign, an organization working for GLBT rights.

5:30 p.m. Pre-performance Reception in Music Hall's Critic's Club
6:30 p.m. Opera Insights with Evans
7:30 p.m. Ainadamar Performance
9:15 p.m. Ainadamar After-Party in the Music Hall Ballroom, $10 with performance ticket
