Full time stage manager and assistant stage director of Opera de Montreal since 1997, Alain Gauthier shares his expertise with the Cincinnati Opera in the upcoming production of Così Fan Tutte. Gauthier learned his skill from a bachelor's degree in theatre from Universitaté du Québec à Montréal and a three year apprenticeship from the L'Atelier Lyrique de L'Opéra de Montréal's stage direction program.

Gauthier directed several performances at L'Opéra de Montréal including L'Étoile in 2005, and Suor Angelica/Il Tabarro in 2006.

Gauthier's extensive experience as assistant director began at L'Atelier Lyrique de L'Opéra de Montréal for Carmen in 1993 and La Traviata in 1994. In 1995, he directed La Boheme for Bernardo Uzan's production at Opéra de Montréal and L'Atelier Lyrique de L'Opéra de Montréal's production. He directed The Medium at Opera Altelier of L'Université de Montréal.

Future engagements include Carmen for Edmonton Opera and Il Barbiere di Siviglia for L'Opéra de Montréal.
